Dr. Bond began his medical career as an ER nurse at the Foothills hospital in Calgary. He flew missions with the S.T.A.R.S. helicopter service as a flight nurse. In 1992 he was one of 4 trauma nurse coordinators for the province of Alberta. He was on the national faculty for the introduction of the Trauma Nurse Core Course in Canada in 1992. He began medical school in 1993 at the University of Calgary. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Ottawa and his Thoracic Surgery fellowship at the University of British Columbia. While in his fellowship he spent 12 month completing his Master’s Degree in Medical Education.

He started his practice at Surrey Hospital after being invited to start a thoracic surgery program there. within 5 years the program had 3 surgeons and was starting on a path towards a dominant MIS Thoracic Surgery program. In 2010 Dr. Bond introduced rib fracture fixation to not only Surrey but to Canada. Surrey still performs the most rib fracture cases in the country with excellent outcomes. They have added a comprehensive rib fracture program seeing all fractures in the region. this has expanded to expertise in chronic chest was pain from injuries and other chest wall diseases.

Surrey is now a 4 surgeon MIS practice. The program has just approved funding to support a clinical fellow each year in Advanced MIS Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Bond has been actively engaged in teaching rib fracture fixation, VATS lobectomy, MIS Esophgectomy and other topics around the world, having lectured in Poland, Czech Republic, Brazil, widely across the USA and Canada. He has been involved in the first 3 national rib fracture courses in Canada and many more in the USA.
